Abstract

Cooking at home in India is a time-consuming daily activity for women. This study examines how the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojna (PMUY) program has reached to women in Uttar Pradesh. The 2011 census showed that around 121 million Indian households depend on traditional fuels. Nearly 40 percent of Indian households do not have access to cooking power. To solve this problem, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched PMUY in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh on May 1, 2016. This project aims to promote the use of clean energy by distributing LPG to 80 million women living below the poverty line. This study aimed to examine women's access to PMUY on the socio-economic and social status of women in India. Moreover, the study provided valuable information to help policymakers and PMUY stakeholders formulate policies and strategies to improve PMUY performance in India
