Abstract

Gender- Responsive Budgeting, or Gender Budgeting, is a methodology to assist governments to integrate a gender perspective into budget as the key national plan for public expenditure. The national budget impacts women’s lives in several ways. It can, for example, directly promote women’s development when funds are allocated for programmes that address women’s economic, social and other needs. To bring gender parity in India through policy making, Gender Responsive Budgeting (GRB) is used as one of the tools to empower women with the help of budget instrument. Our paper does a GRB analysis of certain women specific schemes mentioned in the Gender Budget Statement of Expenditure Budgets over the years. We look at key concerns from a gender lens for certain schemes and lay down some recommendations and conclusion at the end.
