Using a gender and governance perspective, this paper critically evaluates the involvement and empowerment of women in Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRI) in Uttar Pradesh, India. The study looks over how socio cultural, political, and institutional issues affect women's engagement in PRI and how such participation affects results for local government and development. The study makes the case that overcoming these barriers necessitates policy and organizational changes, including gender-sensitive governance reforms, capacity building, and affirmative action policies. The analysis shows that women's participation in PRI can have a positive impact on the quality of governance, the delivery of public services, and the promotion of gender equality in rural areas. The paper concludes with policy recommendations to promote women's participation and empowerment in PRI and local governance.
