Green Technology -Application of Geo- Synthetics for Sustainable Civil Engineering Construction

Geosynthetics are a broad category of synthetic materials used in geotechnical engineering and environmental protection projects. These materials have transformed traditional construction methods by offering innovative solutions for soil stabilization, erosion control, drainage, and containment. It can be in synthetic or natural form. Innovative solutions have been developed with Geo- Synthetic products for several applications in various engineering fields. These include solutions for infrastructure and water resource applications. The application of Geo- Synthetic products is multifarious in construction industry such as Water Resource Projects, Road Way Projects, River, and Coastal Protection works, Water supply – sewerage treatment works, Agriculture productivity so on so forth. Geo-Synthetics are environment friendly products to safe guard mother earth by minimizing usage of borrow soils in building earthen dams and Road embankments. These products also used in soil stabilization for economical civil engineering foundations and reduction of usage of carbon emitting construction materials such as steel, cement, aggregates, sand etc. In other way, Green Synthetics is paving way towards green technology in Civil Engineering Construction and saving mother earth by minimizing unrenewable natural construction resources for optimal sustainability. Though a lot innovations have happened for the multiple use of Geo-Textiles in construction industry, public at large is not aware of these innovations. The need of the day is to spread awareness among the public and the experts of civil construction. Geo-textiles are effective tools for the construction engineers which can be used to solve a range of geotechnical problems. The use of Geo-synthetics in Water Resources (Irrigation) Structures is Cost Effective, sustaining Eco friendly –Environment, Faster Construction and for sustainable Naturals Resources. It also contributes to carbon footprint (Reduced emission of Carbon) and accrue carbon credits for Nation’s wealth and in other way paving towards Green-technology.
