Human behavior is intricately shaped by the interplay of culture and environment. This chapter explores the concepts of cultural acculturation—the process through which individuals or groups adopt aspects of another culture—and environmental determinism, which posits that physical surroundings influence human actions and societal development. By examining historical and contemporary examples, the chapter illustrates how environmental factors, such as geography, climate, and natural resources, interact with cultural dynamics to guide behavioral patterns, social structures, and adaptive strategies. Emphasis is placed on the nuanced ways in which cultural assimilation, resistance, and adaptation occur, highlighting that human behavior cannot be fully understood without considering both cultural and environmental contexts. Through this integrated approach, the chapter offers a deeper comprehension of the forces that mold human thought, interaction, and decision-making.
