International Migration from Rural Punjab- An Analysis

This study is designed to analyze the overall causes and impacts of migration. This study examines those determinants of international migration which inspire the people of low income in less developed countries to migrate to high income developed countries. This Research is purely based on primary data which has been collected from the fifteen villages of two districts of Punjab namely Jalandhar and SBS Nagar. The primary aim of this research was to know about the impacts of international migration on rural Punjab. During the survey it has been noticed that international migration has brought very notable changes in the migrant sending areas. As the thinking level of migrants’ family members had changed a lot and remittances sent by NRIs also improved their financial conditions enormously. Remittance recipient households utilize these remittances for various motives such as for repayment of loan, for construction
purposes, to purchase household goods and for donation purposes also.
